Vietnam-based Marathon raised Vulcan Capital led Seed funding

Vulcan Capital, the investment division of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s Vulcan Inc., sponsored a seed fundraising round for Marathon, a Vietnam-based edtech business, in which an unknown sum was raised. DSG Consumer Partners, Forge Ventures, and Goodwater Capital all contributed to the fundraising effort.

Marathon was established in 2017 and provides K–12 pupils with live online tutoring sessions. It presently includes hundreds of private tutors, including English language instructors who are native speakers.

In its first year of operation, the firm claimed to have had a 30% increase in monthly customers.

Duc Pham, a former TPG Capital investment officer, and Tran Viet Tung, a former Klook country head for Vietnam, founded the firm. Marathon received US $1.5 million in pre-seed investment in August of last year, under the direction of Forge Ventures.

The edtech company intends to use the additional capital for business expansion and product development. Beyond Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, it intends to increase the number of its online-to-offline experience centres.

On its platform, Marathon provides live online tutoring sessions that virtually pair tutors and pupils.
