Majority of Indonesian payments company Skye Sab acquired by Airwallex

The majority of PT Skye Sab Indonesia, a PJP (Penyedia Jasa Pembayaran) Category 1 license holder, has been acquired by Airwallex, a multinational payment company.

According to a statement released by Airwallex on Wednesday, the acquisition enables Indonesian retailers wishing to grow internationally to access Airwallex’s worldwide financial network.

This makes it easier for foreign companies to enter Indonesia and gives them a way to grow and better manage their finances for global expansion.

Additionally, it increases Airwallex’s current footprint in several important Asia-Pacific (APAC) markets, such as Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam.

The announcement comes after Airwallex recently raised $330 million in a Series G funding round at a valuation of $8 billion, which is a 30 percent increase from just six months ago.

As Airwallex advances its artificial intelligence (AI) roadmap and fortifies its financial infrastructure, the investment will help the company continue to grow in important global markets, including Indonesia.

This includes the deployment of specialized AI agents that improve cross-border operations’ speed, accuracy, and efficiency while streamlining financial workflows.

“As AI lowers software costs, infrastructure and data become the ultimate differentiator,” said Jack Zhang, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Airwallex.

“Airwallex connects the full spectrum of a customer’s financial operations—money in, money out, and everything in between—giving our agents the contextual data to execute with precision,

“This proprietary visibility, built on our scalable financial infrastructure, is what powers agentic finance,” he added.

The statement claims that Indonesia’s vibrant economy and expanding digital ecosystem offer Airwallex a significant growth opportunity, especially as the nation moves closer to its 2045 Digital Vision.

By promoting innovation, bolstering Indonesia’s institutions and economy, and expanding access to basic services, this national agenda seeks to make Indonesia a competitive global leader in digital technology.

By giving Indonesian companies access to its financial infrastructure throughout Southeast Asia, Airwallex will enable them to successfully navigate this transition and expand internationally.

“This acquisition marks a significant milestone for Airwallex as we continue building a truly global financial platform,

“Indonesia’s fast-growing economy and vibrant SME sector present immense opportunities. Our goal is to tackle the financial challenges faced by businesses in Indonesia, empowering them to expand beyond borders,” said Arnold Chan, General Manager, Asia Pacific (APAC) at Airwallex.
