First ever Startup leadership conclave at JKEDI

Govt working to create a sustainable and inclusive startup ecosystem in J&K: Prashant Goyal

The first-ever startup leadership conclave was held at Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI).

The conclave was inaugurated on 6th March by Prashant Goyal, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce (Union Territory of J&K). “The Startup India initiative of the Government of India has been a game changer for the country, “expressed Goyal.

The government is giving its support to startups to strengthen and nurture them for the future. “Revision of the Startup policy of 2018 is one such effort to create an all-inclusive and sustainable startup ecosystem in J&K. This policy will be in tune with the latest developments happening across the globe,” said Prashant Goyal added.

The conclave saw participation from several entrepreneurs and investors from different sectors.

The keynote speaker at the event was Pyare Zia Khan, CEO of Ashmi Group. Khan spoke about his journey of being a successful entrepreneur. He stated that he had no money initially and belonged to a poor family however his passion to reach his goals kept him going. He started off as a rickshaw driver and currently owns a transportation business worth around 600 crores.

Startups will receive a provision of 5 percent of the land with new policies coming up and soon will be made public.

Ajaz Ahmed, Director JKEDI expressed how important this conclave is and how they want this to impact the youth in Jammu and Kashmir. He added “The startup ecosystem of Jammu and Kashmir is growing steadily taking a cue from the country’s rising startup culture. Under the guidance and support of the Principal Secretary, the UT is witnessing a sea change”.

The idea behind the conclave largely was to provide direction and hope to upcoming entrepreneurs from various sectors and also encourage the youth to be a part of the startup ecosystem.
