SnapScan acquired South African HR firm Radar
Radar, a South African HR and payroll firm, has been bought by SnapScan, a mobile payments provider, as founders Kobus Ehlers and Gerrit Greeff transition from their second to their first startup.
Ehlers and Greeff spent over a decade developing numerous payment systems for and with banks, culminating in SnapScan, which became South Africa’s most popular mobile payment app until being acquired by Standard Bank in late 2016.
In 2019, the two began working on Radar with Richard Oakley, a comprehensive solution that takes care of everything a business owner needs to expand and manage their staff, and they signed up their first clients in 2020.
“Firepay has been one of the original investors in Radar due to the close strategic fit between their offering and what we built at Radar. Both companies try to solve different problems facing the same SME customers. As Radar started looking for a way to scale our distribution and take the product to the next level, it became evident that working closely with SnapScan would be a great way to achieve that,” Ehlers told as per reports.
“There are some very exciting possibilities when you combine our product with the reach and experience of the SnapScan team. We look forward to seeing the product grow and improve the lives of small business employers in South Africa.”
Radar’s addition to the team, according to Firepay CEO Marin Cundall, opens up new options for the company and its future offerings.
“Our focus is on providing the best experience for businesses, and we believe this acquisition will help us achieve that goal,” she said.
The Radar founders will leave the company after the acquisition, while the remainder of the staff will join Firepay. Existing Radar clients and the goods available will not be affected immediately.
