Cleantech startup Indra raised $4 M Series A funding from Mela Ventures, others
Emerald Technology Ventures and Mela Ventures led a $4 million Series A round for Indra, a provider of smart water treatment systems. The Climate Angels and Peak Sustainability Ventures also participated in the round.
Indra, which was co-founded in 2017 by Amrit Om Nayak and Krunal Patel, uses a patented electro-chemical oxidation and coagulation process to solve the challenging problem of water treatment for the industrial and sewage segment.
Using ionic reactions, Indra’s technology eliminates a variety of contaminants from wastewater, including heavy metals, suspended solids, phosphorus, fats, oil, grease, pathogens, and dissolved organics. Its plug-and-play proprietary water treatment system recovers up to 99% of treated water and requires 90% less space than other solutions on the market.
“Solving the wastewater treatment challenge needs continuous innovation and relentless commitment. I am very excited that Mela Ventures shares the same passion for sustainable solutions. This partnership gives us a lot of conviction to confidently pursue and deliver on our promise to drive the world’s transition towards sustainable water management,” said Nayak.
INDRA’s current focus is on industrial effluents from steel, textile, pharmaceutical, chemical, and hotel and commercial property sewage. However, its influence is felt in a variety of sectors where efficient water treatment is critical.
With its water treatment assets, Indra has cleaned more than a billion litters of water and may have saved up to 75% of net carbon emissions in the process. It promises to reduce life cycle costs by 35%, produce 70% less sludge, need 90% less human intervention, and save up to 90% space.
The Indian market for water treatment is estimated to be worth $12 billion at the moment, and by 2030, it is projected to grow to $20 billion.
