AIIB stake in Seraya Partners Fund I acquired by Temasek-backed GenZero

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), a multilateral development bank that finances sustainable infrastructure to promote inclusive growth, sold a fund interest in Seraya Partners Fund I to Temasek-owned investment platform GenZero on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the company, the deal exposes GenZero to a well-established portfolio of sustainable infrastructure and energy transition assets in important Asian markets.

It also demonstrates GenZero’s belief that, given the scope of the region’s infrastructure requirements and the chance to raise funds for workable, profitable solutions, Asia-Pacific will continue to play a crucial role in global decarbonization.

Seraya Partners Fund I, which is managed by Seraya Partners, is a mid-market infrastructure fund with an Asian focus that makes investments in industries that help the region’s energy transition and sustainable infrastructure development.

Empyrion Digital, a pan-Asian low-carbon data center operator with 290 MW of operating and under-construction IT capacity, and Cyan Renewables, Asia’s largest marine energy transition operator with 35 specialized vessels serving energy and offshore wind developers and contractors, are two examples of its portfolio.

“This investment reflects GenZero’s commitment to accelerating Asia-Pacific’s energy transition through scalable, enabling infrastructure,

“It also highlights how development finance and long-term private capital can work in tandem to advance climate outcomes,” said Kimberly Tan, Head of Investments, GenZero.

She claims that Seraya Partners Fund I was sparked by AIIB’s anchor investment.

“The acquisition of AIIB’s stake provides GenZero with exposure to a portfolio of high-quality operating infrastructure assets, while enabling development capital to be recycled into the next frontier of climate solutions,” she added.

According to Kim-See Lim, Chief Investment Officer, Public Sector (Region 1) & Financial Institutions and Funds (Global) Clients at AIIB, this transaction shows how secondary markets can assist in raising more private capital for Asia’s sustainable infrastructure.

“As the region continues to face climate and development financing needs, AIIB will remain committed to working with partners to strengthen market confidence and channel long-term private capital across the region,” she added.
