AirTrunk commits $3.3 billion to ESG

A $5 billion (US $3.3 billion) in finance pledges for environmental, social, and governance initiatives have been secured by AirTrunk, an Asia Pacific expert in hyperscale data centers. This follows the company’s recent acquisition of a sustainability-linked loan valued at about US $431.7 million (SLL).

According to a press release, the SLL will support AirTrunk’s TOK1 data center campus expansion in Japan, making it the first data center in the Asia Pacific to integrate operational energy and water efficiency as key performance measures. It’s a good idea to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong, but it’s not a need.

In Japan and other countries in the area, AirTrunk is also looking to invest in social impact projects. The company will prioritize STEM education, equal digital access, biodiversity, and conservation, as well as creativity and R&D.

“Our sustainable finance platform complements our recent commitment to net zero emissions by 2030,” AirTrunk CFO Prashant Murthy said.

Together with a corporate SLL worth A$2.1 billion (US $1.4 billion) announced in September 2021, the company also announced a green loan in September 2022.
