Aquatech startup Jala raised $13.1 M Series A funding from Intudo Ventures

The aquatech startup Jala, based in Indonesia, has raised $13.1 million in a series A round led by Intudo Ventures. Other investors, including Meloy Fund and Mirova, also participated in the funding round.

With the funding, Jala will be able to enhance its platform by adding more detailed forecasts for shrimp disease, water quality, and cultivation performance. Additionally, it wants to improve its automated feed and shrimp weight data input capabilities.

Jala’s app, developed in 2017 by Aryo Wiryawan and Liris Maduningtyas, allows farmers to log, track, and evaluate their shrimp farm operations in real-time. According to the company, it has assisted its nearly 20,000 users in monitoring shrimp across more than 35,000 water bodies thus far.

Jala Smartfarm, the company’s credit scoring service, provides farmers with financing options. Its Jala Harvest service assists farmers in bringing their goods to market in the interim.

Being a major shrimp producer in the world, Indonesia emphasizes the significance of aquatech startups in the nation. Earlier this year, eFishery, another local aquatech company, raised a total of US$200 million in series D funding.
