Biobot Surgical secures $15 M to bring Robotic Prostate Cancer platform to the U.S.

In its most recent funding round, which was led by ClavystBio in collaboration with ZIG Ventures, Biobot Surgical, a Singapore-based medical technology startup creating robotic-assisted systems for prostate cancer diagnostics and treatment, raised S$20 million ($15.4 million).

The funding, according to a statement released by ClavystBio on Monday, would hasten the deployment of the company’s Mona Lisa platform in foreign markets. This technology combines robotic needle guiding with MRI-ultrasound image fusion for targeted prostate biopsy and focused ablation. Additionally, it will enhance the company’s clinical and economic evidence base, bolster its commercial skills for its next stage of growth, and support the entrance plan for the US market.

Leading facilities in Europe and Asia Pacific have adopted Biobot, which has supported over 30,000 patients and deployed over 80 systems worldwide. Over fifty actual clinical articles make up the company’s evidence base. Over 1.4 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year worldwide.

As part of its U.S. commercialization strategy, Biobot has partnered with Fogarty Innovation to identify priority clinical markets and accelerate the adoption of its technology among healthcare providers.

As the market shifts toward safer, more accurate, and more repeatable prostate operations, Anselm Tan, MedTech Lead at ClavystBio, stated that Biobot has the ideal mix of clinical relevance, global traction, and platform potential.

The company’s goal, according to Sim Kok Hwee, Deputy Chairman and CEO of Biobot Surgical, is to develop Mona Lisa into a precision intervention platform for prostate care that connects robotic guidance, imaging, procedure data, and targeted treatment procedures. According to the executive, its long-term strategy is centered on developing repeatable models for adoption in environments where transperineal prostate treatments yield the most clinical and financial benefits.
