Cloud infrastructure provider Whogohost acquired Nigerian cloud communications startup SendChamp
Whogohost, the largest cloud infrastructure provider in West Africa has acquired Nigerian startup SendChamp.
SendChamp, a cloud communications service provider founded in 2021 by Goodness Kayode and Damilola Olotu, enables companies to send and receive customer messages via a variety of channels, including SMS, WhatsApp, email, and voice.
The startup has collaborated with more than 6,000 companies in the past two years, including Surebet247, Baxi, Chowdeck, Wirepay by Maplerad, Bumpa, and TeamApt. It received a US$100,000 funding round in late 2021, and Whogohost has since acquired it as part of its strategic plans to broaden the value it provides to its clientele.
Whogohost will gain access to SendChamp’s product suite, which includes systems for customer support, OTP, and marketing messages, as a result of the acquisition, the price of which was not disclosed. Meanwhile, SendChamp will profit from its access to Whogohost’s customer database, which numbers over 100,000.
“We received offers from a number of businesses across diverse industries at different points in our journey but ultimately went with Whogohost when an offer came given the synergies between our products and strategic positioning are clear. With this acquisition, we get to keep building SendChamp as an interoperable product within Whogohost’s integrated platform,” Kayode said.
The purchase of SendChamp by Whogohost is seen as the beginning of a strategic process that will see the business change from a provider of domains and hosting infrastructure to a diverse digital services platform with a focus on domains, online presence, communication, and online commerce products.
“Over the last 16 years, Whogohost has provided domain hosting services to hundreds of thousands of businesses. The acquisition of SendChamp presents us with a unique opportunity to evolve our business from domain-hosting to a one-stop shop for digital services for entrepreneurs and businesses in Africa. We’re excited about what this means for us,” said Opeyemi Awoyemi, founder at Whogohost.
As it transitions to new ownership in the months after the acquisition, SendChamp will continue to run as a standalone product. However, its goods and services will soon be available through the Whogohost integrated platform. As chief product officer and chief technology officer, respectively, Kayode and Olotu will both join Whogohost.
