D2C brand Basil raised Rs 3.6 Cr Seed funding from IIMA Ventures, others

Basil, a consumer houseware startup, has raised Rs 3.6 crore in a seed funding round led by Appreciate Capital and IIMA Ventures. Angel investors Mohit Sadaani, Brij Bhushan, Malini Adapureddy, Abhishek Goyal, Koo co-founder Aprameya Radhakrishna, and Abhishek Goyal also participated in the round.

According to a press release from Basil, the money will be used to improve its direct-to-consumer (D2C) play, increase its reach through e-commerce channels, and diversify its product offering.

Basil is a direct-to-consumer startup that was co-founded in 2023 by Harini Rajagopalan and Mahesh Muraleedharan. It offers customized products that are especially appealing to millennial parents and Generation Alpha. A notable market gap in the industry is strategically addressed by Basil’s water bottles and Bento boxes.

Basil wants to give this area more power by bringing cutting-edge designs that are driven by consumer demands, high-quality materials, practical layouts, and visual appeal. Currently, its products can be found on their D2C platform throughout all of India as well as on online retailers like Amazon.

In the upcoming year, the Bengaluru-based company intends to introduce a new line of bento boxes tailored specifically for working professionals as well as kid-friendly lunch bags.

Aside from the unbranded market, Basil faces competition from Rabitat, Vaya, Solara, Milton, and Cello.

By 2027, the Indian consumer houseware market is expected to surpass ₹507 billion, predicts Datum Intelligence.
