Deeptech communications startup Comminent raises $2 M from Transition VC

The energy transition-focused fund Transition VC has invested $2 million in Comminent, a deep-tech communications startup developing intelligent, device-agnostic IoT infrastructure for utilities and smart cities.
According to a press release from Comminent, the money will be used to broaden its portfolio in smart metering rollout and open doors in more general smart city applications like intelligent infrastructure management, water metering, and smart lighting.
Comminent, which was co-founded in 2018 by Amarjeet Kumar and Vikas Kashyap, creates device-neutral, standards-based RF mesh communication networks for critical infrastructure uses like smart cities and smart meters. Its network stack solves the issues of latency, scalability, and reliability of legacy communication technologies. It is interoperable, high-throughput, extremely secure, and self-healing.
The Bengaluru-based startup wants to provide utilities and OEMs with a reliable, affordable option that functions well in both rural and non-urban regions. With a revenue projection of Rs 300 crore by FY28, it is well-positioned to support India’s ambitious plan to install 250 million smart meters over the next four to five years.
According to Comminent, it is currently negotiating new smart metering projects and has contracts to deliver more than 1 million endpoints under current agreements. Additionally, the startup is moving forward with water metering and smart street lighting implementations. Through strategic alliances, it intends to expand globally, initially attracting interest from foreign markets like the US and Japan.
