Egyptian AI startup Widebot raised $3 M Pre-series A funding

Widebot, an Egyptian artificial intelligence startup, has secured US $3 million in pre-Series A funding to assist in the development of a large language model (LLM) in Arabic.

Widebot, a generative AI model created especially for the Arabic language, was first established in Cairo but is currently headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Understanding a variety of Arabic accents and dialects is the goal of AQL Mind.

“AQL Mind will enable the company to deliver accurate, secure and personalised AI experiences to Saudi government entities and businesses,” said Mohammed Nabil, WideBot CEO and co-founder.

With support from Saudi investment firm Wafra, Keheilan Asset Management II led the round. Enza Capital, DisrupTech Ventures, LoftyInc Capital, Den VC, and SparkLabs Ventures also participated.

“We firmly believe that the future of economic development in the region hinges on supporting deep technology companies,” said Dr Ahmed Abdelhamid, CEO of Keheilan Asset Management. “The synergy between technical and financial efforts will reinforce national sovereignty over our technological infrastructure.”
