Early-stage investor Baobab Network announced acquisition of marketing company Reflector Marketing

The acquisition of Reflector Marketing, a South African strategy and branding agency, has been announced by Baobab Network, an early-stage investor supporting startups throughout Africa.

Since 2019, the Baobab Network has assisted startups in raising capital and developing their capacity. Most recently, the network increased the average investment to $50,000 USD. It has fifty startups in its portfolio.

Reflector Marketing, founded in 2022 by Klyne Maharaj, has since made a name for itself as a specialized firm that provides branding, digital services, and strategic marketing solutions that are specifically catered to the needs of startups.

The acquisition by Baobab Network now stands as a testament to Toby Hanington, co-founder of Baobab, and his company’s aspirational goals and enduring dedication to investing throughout Africa.

“Baobab has made no secret that we want to become the leading early-stage investor across Africa. To do so, we’re always thinking about what value we create for founders, on top of our capital investment. We’ve worked with the Reflector team since early 2023, and the move to acquire them is a testament to the work they’ve already done with our portfolio. We have incredibly ambitious long term growth plans and bringing in Klyne and his team will definitely expedite those,” Hanington said.

With Maharaj taking on the position of accelerator director, he will join Baobab along with his larger team. Baobab will be able to provide its portfolio companies with full in-house support thanks to this integration, which will further boost their growth and investment readiness. The synergies between the two entities seemed to excite Maharaj.

“Our goal has always been to help the world’s best startups nail their positioning, win their markets, and raise capital to fuel their growth. Now, as part of Baobab, we’re excited to focus our efforts exclusively on supporting entrepreneurs in Africa. Baobab already has a phenomenal team that have made a profound impact on Africa’s venture ecosystem. Together, we’ll build the most powerful capabilities team of any early-stage investor on the continent,” he said.
