Equinix completes acquisition to support Philippine digital innovation

The global leader in digital infrastructure, Equinix, Inc., announced on Tuesday that it had successfully acquired three data centers in Manila, the Philippines, from technology solutions provider Total Information Management.
The three carrier-neutral, high-performance data centers, MN1, MN2, and MN3, offer more than 1,000 cabinets of capacity and space for future growth, according to a statement from Equinix.
With a capacity of 500 cabinets, the recently opened facility is called MN2.
Equinix can now support both local and international clients wishing to expand into the Philippines right away thanks to the acquisition of these data centers.
Leading network service providers and four of Manila’s primary internet exchanges (IXs) are housed in these recently purchased data centers.
Businesses operating in the Philippines have access to a multitude of connectivity options thanks to this strong network ecosystem.
Equinix’s entry into the Philippines will enable local organizations to connect with over 10,000 companies within Equinix’s extensive global ecosystems, addressing the growing demand for digital infrastructure and promoting AI innovation in the country through strategic partnerships with leading AI companies such as NVIDIA and HPE.
The statement claims that the Philippines’ digital economy grew to $45 billion in 2024, or 8.5% of its country’s GDP.
Digital-enabling infrastructure, e-commerce, and digital media/content are all included in this broad category of digital transactions.
High-performance digital infrastructure and cutting-edge technology like artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming more and more necessary in the country due to the growing number of people who are online, developments in cloud computing, and government programs like the Digital Philippines Campaign and the National Broadband Plan.
In the markets where it operates, Equinix holds a nearly 40 percent market share of the on-ramps to the major cloud service providers, and it hosts over 2,000 networks worldwide.
Following the announcement, Platform Equinix now has more than 270 data centers spread across 35 countries and 75 metro areas.
The company runs 63 data centers in 17 major Asia-Pacific cities, including Singapore, Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Southeast Asia is recognized as a significant and rapidly evolving market.
Following the opening of its first data center in Jakarta, Indonesia, Equinix’s entry into the Philippines enhances its capacity to meet Southeast Asia’s expanding needs for digital infrastructure.
At the moment, Equinix runs data centers in important Southeast Asian nations like Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
The business recently revealed plans to expand in Thailand as well.
