Fabless semiconductor design startup BigEndian Semiconductors raised $3 M Seed funding

Vertex Ventures SEA & India led the $3 million seed round that the fabless semiconductor design startup BigEndian raised. Amitabh Nagpal, the head of startup business development at Amazon Web Services, was among the strategic investors who also participated in the round.

The money raised will be utilized to scale operations, improve R&D capabilities, and increase the size of the engineering team.

BigEndian, a semiconductor solutions company in the surveillance vertical, was founded in 2024 by Kumar, Renuka Prasad, Harpreet Wadhawan, Dinesh Annayya, Kanagaraju Ponnusamy, and Jansen Cheng. For use in consumer and business applications, its first SoC is being developed for security cameras.

In the first quarter of 2025, the startup’s reference chip, which is based on a 28nm node process, will be released. It is collaborating with the Taiwanese fabrication company UMC to develop surveillance chips initially.

Additionally, it intends to gradually increase its market share and examine the broader IoT industry, which is dominated by 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers.

In the field of fabless semiconductors, Morphing Machines raised $2.76 million in June of this year during its seed round, which was spearheaded by Speciale Invest. Peak XV had also contributed $3 million to InCore Semiconductor earlier in 2023.
