Gaming startup LightFury Games raised $8.5 M Seed funding from Blume Ventures

Blume Ventures led the $8.5 million Seed round for the gaming startup LightFury Games.

Japanese mobile entertainment company Mixi, micro-venture capital company Gemba Capital, and angel investors Kunal Shah and Gaurav Munjal were also involved in the round.

With an initial emphasis on mobile games, the proceeds will be used to develop AAA titles that will eventually be expanded to other platforms, including consoles. AAA games are those that usually have large development and marketing budgets.

Lead by veteran gaming industry professionals Anurag Banerjee, Tina Balachandran, and former Unacademy and Tencent Games executive Karan Shroff, the startup has also hired Daniel Hall, a longtime executive from Improbable, as senior director of engineering and Chong-U Lim, a former executive from Electronic Arts and Improbable, as its chief technology officer (CTO).

Following a three-year tenure at the edtech unicorn Unacademy, chief executive Shroff departed the company in September 2022. Before this, he spent more than four years leading Xiaomi India’s brand marketing.

The funds that will be raised will be utilized not only to fund game development but also to open game studios in India and the UK and hire top talent for these locations.
