GMO VenturePartners gained $240 M from three portfolios

According to sources, three of its portfolio businesses generated financial gains for Japan-based GMO VenturePartners of US $240 million. With donations from 2C2P, the FinTech companies Coda Payments and GMO PaymentGateway Singapore generated a sizable profit.

The VC firm’s founder Ryu Muramatsu, who founded it in 2005, was also ranked the most significant venture investor on Forbes Japan’s 2023 list.

GMO VenturePartners made its first investment in Coda through its 2 billion yen (US $15.1 million) Global Payment Fund. Coda specializes in in-game payments. Coda’s series A round was similarly led by the VC.

Muramatsu has established seven funds alongside GMO VenturePartners to support firms in India, India, and Southeast Asia.

His team as a whole has contributed to the founding of 200 businesses worldwide or invested in them. The market value of 21 of those is greater than 100 billion yen ($700 million).

FinAccel and Razorpay are two further unicorns that the VC has backed through this fund.

The newest ESG and FinTech-focused fund were introduced in July 2021, according to GMO VenturePartners. The money will be used throughout the Indo-Pacific area and is worth $100 million.
