Green Aero raises $1.6 M Seed funding from pi Ventures

Antler and pi Ventures led a $1.6 million seed funding round for Green Aero, a deep tech startup creating next-generation aero engines for both military and commercial uses.

In September 2024, the Delhi-based company raised $240,000 in a similar round, led by Rebalance and other investors.

According to a press release from Green Aero, the money will be used to develop and test new products, grow its engineering and operations team, build a cutting-edge testing facility, and expedite the launch of its first engine.

Green Aero was founded in 2023 by Prithwish Kundu and produces the first hydrogen-powered, aerospace, and naval core propulsion technology for civilian aircraft in India. The startup is creating these technologies from scratch and concentrating on internal research and development as well as thorough testing.

Compared to the current state-of-the-art models worldwide, Green Aero claims to be creating next-generation aero engines with an efficiency goal of two times higher. A world-first in aero engine design, it will be propelled by the incorporation of a proprietary turbine technology.

With their engines’ high-thrust performance envelope, Green Aero is also advancing the field of supersonic propulsion in the future. A green hydrogen-based engine that will provide a high-efficiency, emission-free substitute for traditional aircraft propulsion is also being developed by the company.

The nation’s first hydrogen-powered aero engine core, known as “The Blue Dragon,” was successfully tested by Green Aero, which intends to commercialize its first small-category engine within the next 12 months.
