Hong Kong-based Animoca Brands invests in startup Fantico

Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based tech unicorn, has invested an unknown amount in Fantico, a premium licenced digital collection marketplace.

Hemant Tucker, sector head for technopreneurs and market head (South Asia & Middle East) at Bank of Singapore, was one of the individuals that participated in the round.

The funds will be utilised to create a platform for artists, designers, developers, and enthusiasts to establish their own metaverse, as well as to create NFT assets and gain access to pre-populated world pieces.

For the Indian market, Fantico is a digital collectable platform that features well-known films, musicians, and sports. VistaVerse is a portfolio business of Vistas Media Capital, a Singapore-based diversified media and entertainment organisation.

Virtual land, blockchain games, curated and user-generated experiences, and an NFT marketplace make up VistaVerse. In the next months, it will be introduced with premium curated experiences, including those from major Indian celebrities.

Dhruv Saxena, chief strategy officer, Vistas Media Capital, said, “We want to leverage the appeal of Web 3.0 and gamefi to make it relatable to those new to the space and build this out responsibly.”

Yat Siu, executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands, commented, “Our goal is the creation of an open metaverse that is also culturally diverse and inclusive. Fantico, armed with the legacy of Vistas Media Capital and its portfolio companies, will be able to draw on a wealth of Indian culture that will enrich the broader metaverse ecosystem.”

The marketplace is now up, catering to both crypto and non-crypto users with high-profile products to spark both groups’ attention.

The metaverse startup will establish an experience-first strategy by using the parent company’s content, such as movies, music, and gaming resources.

Vistas Media Capital is a content media and entertainment investment holding company established in Singapore. Content creation and distribution spanning films and series — from India to Hollywood (across languages), animation and VFX, gaming, media-tech, OTT platform, live entertainment events, and digital media marketing are among the company’s major operations.
