IIT talent pool attracts startups
Irrespective of the recession trends in the market, e-commerce firms have not stopped themselves from offering high packages to IIT graduates which vary from ₹15-35 lakh. These e-commerce firms are focusing to expand their teams with candidates who have specialized skill sets.
While speaking to a media house, a spokesperson of Flipkart said, “we are engaging with colleges for campus hiring for roles such as supply chain analytics, and product and business development. We are also visiting business schools and engineering campuses across the country, including IIT Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, BHU (Varanasi), Roorkee, Hyderabad, and Guwahati”.
Teams who visited IITs for campus placements said that Flipkart offered data scientists and project managers a package that ranged from ₹26-33 lakh. According to IIT Guwahati, there were 78 startups that applied for the batch of 2023. A Tiger Global-supported FinTech firm visited IIT BHU for campus placements and offered a salary package of ₹15-20 lakh along with other benefits in case of relocation. Apart from Flipkart, there were other startups that had visited IITs for campus placement which included Agnikul (Spacetech), Ather Energy (EV), Abacus AI, Razorpay (FinTech), Zomato, Slice, Zupee, and Meesho.
A customer experience company ‘Locobuzz’ has also joined the startups by going to IIT Mumbai for placements for the first time. Locobuzz will be offering a package of ₹18-20 lakh with a performance bonus of ₹2 lakhs in line with the CTC.
Co-founder and CEO of Jar Nischay AG said, “freshers choosing to join a startup like ours, already have made the decision of choosing a path of growth led by ownership. So, mostly, we have healthy competition with fellow startups”.
Deputy country manager of Tide India, Kumar Shekhar stated that “We primarily look at IITians across roles, such as marketing manager and operation manager. As we continue to scale further, we will look at hiring more talent from leading engineering colleges like IITs.”
Co-founder and CEO of LocoBuzz, Vidhal Agarwal said, “We are in the growth phase and our priority is to get what is needed with the right talent. The talent pool of IITs is well-disciplined and groomed. They know the current technology trend and best practices in the industry. Also, they are great analytical thinkers, well connected, and act like a hive mind”. The move of recruiting candidates from IITs by these startups and e-commerce firms is just the start of their expansion plan.
