An online learning platform in Vietnam called Mclass provides students with live teaching options and has been acquired by the Indonesian company Ruangguru.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Ruangguru stated that the acquisition is part of its strategic plan to broaden its influence and strengthen its position in the area following the company’s successful entry into the Vietnamese market in 2019 through its subsidiary, Kien Guru.
The platform Mclass, established in 2019 by Nguyen Van Khai and Nguyen Minh Thang, collaborates with local teachers to provide live teaching sessions on subjects like math, science, literature, and college preparation exams like the IELTS.
The platform has more than 10 million followers on the social media accounts of the teachers, and in 2022, it was able to attract the simultaneous participation of 845,000 students and a total of 1 million video replays for a single educational session.

Ruangguru has strengthened its position as a market leader in Vietnam’s expanding ed-tech market with this acquisition, particularly in the upper secondary school market.
The K-12 online learning solution from Kien Guru, which includes learning video solutions, live teaching, and special features to aid students with homework, has been used by more than 2.5 million students in Vietnam over the past four years, is said to be complemented by this strategic move.
This acquisition will not only increase the number of educational options available to students, but it will also give Mclass teachers a good chance to reach out to and influence more students in Vietnam and the surrounding region.
