Microsoft possibly to join Indian gaming unicorn Zupee’s $100 M round

According to TechCrunch, Microsoft is in discussions to participate in Zupee’s $100 million fundraising round. Zupee is an Indian gaming platform where players may win money through tournaments.

The story quoted individuals who said that conversations between Microsoft and Zupee are still ongoing and that the transaction might yet fail. If all goes as planned, Zupee will use Azure and other cloud services from Microsoft.

On its platform, Zupee offers a variety of games, some of which have elements of chance. In order to guarantee the reliability of its algorithms, the firm also has certification for random number generators (RNG).

But a Microsoft team allegedly voiced worries about the unfavourable public view of games that involve gambling and counselled Microsoft against the transaction, a source told TechCrunch.

Microsoft and Zupee declined to respond to the situation.

Following a US $102 million series B round it closed in January, New Delhi-based Zupee is now valued at US $600 million.
