New AI startup Parallel launched by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal

Parallel Web Systems, an AI startup founded by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, aims to transform the way AI agents engage with the internet.

With a cloud-based research platform and millions of early adopter queries, the company came out of stealth mode. Prominent investors like Khosla Ventures, Index Ventures, and First Round Capital have contributed $30 million to the project thus far.

Parallel develops tools and infrastructure especially for intelligent web interaction by AI agents. It provides a cloud-based deep research API that enables AI applications to access and synthesize public web data in real-time, conducting online research and ultimately producing comprehensive citations.

Parallel claims that its flagship products include eight different AI research engines. Each is made to meet distinct computational requirements. This enables AI agents to perform intricate tasks like long-term research and interdisciplinary synthesis. According to Parallel, its technology beats industry-leading AI models, such as OpenAI’s GPT-5, in web research benchmarks.

Knowledge workers, research automation across industries, and coding assistants are all powered by web API agents. These agents are also used by businesses to automate intricate processes. Parallel challenges both large-scale LLM-driven search agents like OpenAI and Google, as well as browser-based infrastructure providers.

Parallel’s public debut coincides with Agrawal’s ongoing legal dispute with Elon Musk over $50 million in unpaid severance pay related to his October 2022 termination as CEO of Twitter. This disagreement arose following Musk’s $44 billion purchase of the social media network.
