Plant-based protein startup Shaka Harry welcomes investor MS Dhoni
Former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni has invested in the plant-based protein business Shaka Harry.
The Indian plant-based protein market is $30–40 million, and it includes startups like Shaka Harry.
Around the world, such businesses have attracted celebrity endorsements. Rapper Jay-Z invested in Impossible Foods, while actor Leonardo DiCaprio invested in Beyond Meat. Virat Kohli, an Indian cricketer, has also invested in the Blue Tribe brand of plant-based meat in India.
“We are serving over 30,000 customers across 10 cities monthly, and expect to triple this number in the next few months. Shaka Harry will also be available on global shelves by the end of this year,” said Anand Nagarajan, cofounder and CEO of Shaka Harry’s parent company Liberate Foods.
A seed fundraising round led by Better Bite Ventures, Blue Horizon, and Panthera Peak Ventures recently awarded the business $2 million.
