Razorpay wins ‘Startup of the Year’, ET Startup Awards: 2022

On 28th Oct 2022 during a virtual meeting held between a high-powered jury which included CEO and MD of Infosys Salil Parekh, had to pick the best out of the best startups for the ‘Startup of the Year’ award in order to build a network of the FinTech sector on a larger scale. The jury chose a Bangalore-based startup ‘Razorpay.’ The meeting lasted for over two hours and the decision was to be made between 45 contenders. The jury comprised 10 members belonging to different parts of the globe like India, Singapore, Seattle, and Silicon Valley.

Razorpay launched in 2014 and founded by Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar is now a winner which previously included companies like Zerodha, Delhivery, Oyo Hotels & Homes, Swiggy, Freshworks, and Ola.

Other winners were chosen out of 9 categories such as the ‘Midas Touch Award’ for the best investor was won by Shekhar Kirani- Partner, Accel. Smita Deorah, cofounder and co-CEO, Lead edtech company, won the ‘Woman Ahead’ category for plastic recycling startup.

Sriharsha Majety, co-founder and CEO of Swiggy said “All the nominations for Startup of the Year (SOTY) were simply outstanding companies, and it was a really close call at the end of the day. I want to congratulate the Razorpay team for emerging winners in the category. They’ve demonstrated great growth and profitably on the back of relentless customer focus, continued innovation in adjacencies, and a culture that allows them to ‘build to last’…,”. In 2017 Swiggy won the ‘Startup of the Year Award’.

“The breadth of categories reinforced the growing importance and scale of the new companies in India and the ecosystem that enabled the creation of these. Among the nominees, there were so many that were special, engaged in solving problems that can have a long-lasting, positive impact on India and the world,” said Salil Parekh, CEO and MD of Infosys.
