Second-hand apparel startup Swag Kicks received $1.2 M funding
One of the biggest importers of old clothing is Pakistan. More customers are anticipated to thrift and shop in this category as a result of rising inflation and declining expenditure.
Targeting young Pakistanis who want to dress fashionably but do not have access to or cannot afford international brands, Swag Kicks is taking advantage of this developing trend.
In 2018, Mateen Ansari, Nofal Khan, and Hamza Sheikh launched Swag Kicks, an online marketplace for real secondhand clothes that have already been washed and sanitised.
The Karachi-based firm for recommerce has secured US $1.2 million in a seed fundraising round that was headed by i2i Ventures and included Techstars Toronto, CrossFund Hong Kong, Rose Lake Ventures, i5 Capital, and STAK Group. The company most recently earned $150,000 from SOSV.
According to Swag Kicks, their platform has 25,000 things listed on it and it has serviced over 100,000 clients.
“The secondhand clothing market in Pakistan is large, but the supply side is very fragmented. The Swag Kicks team is able to operate at scale because of the elaborate back end they’ve built, including an in-house warehouse SaaS product that has tremendous potential,” Misbah Naqvi, co-founder and general partner at i2i Ventures, said in a statement.
Swag Kicks continued by stating that it hopes to expand outside of Pakistan by entering the global direct-to-consumer and business-to-business circular thrift and fashion markets.
