Second IGNITE SEED Innovation Programme opens applications in East Africa
The second round of applications for the IGNITE SEED Innovation program in East Africa has begun. This initiative supports entrepreneurial teams with ideas for innovative food systems that are supported by research, as well as providing training and market validation.
The ten-month innovation program will concentrate on creators and innovators with research-backed ideas in the food systems sector with a high potential for disruption and impact towards food security in East Africa. It is run by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) IGNITE Innovation Hub, Circle Innovation, and DTU Skylab Foodlab with the support of Care Denmark and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Even if they haven’t yet formally registered their businesses, innovators and researchers with research-supported innovations addressing food systems in East Africa are encouraged to apply. Young people, teams led by women, and innovators from underserved populations based in East Africa are encouraged to submit applications.
The Human Centered Design (HCD) Lab will be available to selected teams during their 10-month participation in the IGNITE SEED Innovation program. Teams will have the chance to be chosen for four months of intensive business training after pitching their validated prototype to a panel of experts at the conclusion of the HCD Lab.
Teams that qualify will also be given access to the extensive WFP and partner networks for implementation, which can help them take their concepts to the next level.
There is a call for applications.
