Singapore edtech firm acquired by Byju’s unit in $100 M deal
According to sources, Great Learning, a subsidiary of Indian edtech giant Byju’s, has purchased Singapore-based executive education provider Northwest Executive Education for an estimated US $100 million in stock and cash.
Northwest provides online students with business and technology degrees from top institutions across the world. Following the acquisition, the platform will continue to function independently, under the leadership of co-founders Mohit Jain, Tamhant Jain, and Maitreyi Singhvi.
Great Learning, a professional education platform bought by Byju’s for $600 million last year, has extended its operations and now serves four million learners in over 170 countries. Byju’s stated at the time of the purchase that it would invest $400 million in professional skilling and lifetime learning.
After raising $800 million in a fundraising round in March, Byju’s value reached $22 billion ahead of its first public offering. Byju Raveendran, the company’s founder, put up half of the money to grow his ownership in Byju’s. The round also included Sumeru Venture, Vitruvian Partners, and BlackRock.
