Singapore’s data centre developer Digital Edge raised over $1.6 B to fund expansion

To support its next stage of expansion, Singapore-based data center developer Digital Edge raised more than $1.6 billion in new funding through a combination of debt and equity financing.

According to a statement released by the company on Monday, the capital raise consists of $1 billion in total debt financing for several campus expansions and about $640 million in equity investment from both new and existing investors.

It should be mentioned that the equity raise was greatly oversubscribed, and some of the biggest institutional investors and sovereign wealth funds in the world joined as new co-investors.

In order to satisfy the growing and complex cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) needs of its clients throughout the region, Digital Edge will expand more quickly thanks to the growth capital.

In the second quarter of 2025, Digital Edge plans to open its first facility on its 300MW campus in Navi Mumbai. Additionally, it plans to open its ninth data center facility in Japan, TY07, a hyperscale edge facility in downtown Tokyo.

“This efficient and flexible funding will accelerate the continued execution of our vision, enabling us to further build-out our digital infrastructure to better meet our customers’ cloud, AI, and interconnection requirements,” said John Freeman, President of Digital Edge.

According to Samuel Lee, CEO of Digital Edge, this is a significant turning point for the company and a testament to the caliber of the platform and its workforce.

According to him, the company is eager to deliver on the upcoming stage of data center developments that are ready for AI.

Digital Edge operates hyperscale edge data centers and interconnections throughout Asia. It is a subsidiary of Stonepeak, an alternative investment company that focuses on real estate and infrastructure.

Since its founding in early 2020, Digital Edge has owned and operated 21 data centers in key locations throughout Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, with over 500 MW of critical information technology (IT) load in service, under construction, and under development, with an additional 300 MW set aside for future development.

SEL2, Digital Edge’s third data center in Korea, opened its doors this past October.

The first structure on its 100MW Incheon campus in Seoul is the 36MW SEL2 facility.

This came after Digital Edge opened its 23MW EDGE2 facility earlier this year, further expanding its presence in Jakarta.

“The level of interest received from existing and new investors is testament to Digital Edge’s proven track record, expansion capacity, and relentless focus on delivering for our customers across the Asia Pacific region,” said Andrew Thomas, Chairman of Digital Edge and a Senior Managing Director at Stonepeak.

“Since making the founding investment in Digital Edge in 2020, Stonepeak has been proud to support the platform’s expansion into six countries and a truly pan-Asia Pacific (APAC) footprint,” he added.
