Elmich Pte Ltd, a prominent supplier of urban greening systems with its headquarters located in Singapore, has been acquired by Sika, a Swiss specialty chemicals company.
The acquisition enhances Sika’s roofing portfolio in the area and fortifies its specification business for both residential and commercial projects, the company said in a statement on Monday.
Sika is getting a new platform for expansion in the Asia/Pacific area with this acquisition.
Sika will be able to improve the commercial and residential specification business in the area by utilizing Elmich’s specification approach across its wide range of products.
Additionally, the addition of Elmich’s urban greening product line opens up even more intriguing cross-selling possibilities with Sika’s wider regional reach and complementary roofing and waterproofing products.
It is observed that the market for green roofs and facades is expanding quickly, with more and more projects being completed in large cities.
Up until 2032, the Asia/Pacific market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.5%.
In cities with higher densities, urbanization causes air pollution and temperature increases.
By lowering the urban heat island effect and enhancing biodiversity and air quality, green facades and roofs greatly aid in the mitigation of these conditions.
Apart from their notable cooling impact, they also aid in the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) by facilitating the vegetation’s absorption and storage of carbon and by insulating, which saves energy.
High ratings in green building certifications, a crucial prerequisite for many projects, are made possible by green roof and facade systems, which significantly contribute to more sustainable urban environments.
Demand is rising, and stricter rules and regulations are also contributing to this.
“Green roofs and facades make metropolitan areas more livable by adding aesthetic appeal, improving air quality, and reducing heat,
“The acquisition will strengthen our position in big cities where green roofs are gaining momentum. Together, we will further develop our commercial and residential specification business, taking the full advantage of our combined expertise and product portfolios, as well as Sika’s wider geographic reach,” said Philippe Jost, Regional Manager Asia/Pacific.
