To build AI infrastructure in India, Reliance Jio and NVIDIA collaborate

To create cloud-based AI infrastructure in the nation, Jio Platforms, a division of Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries, has teamed up with global chipmaker NVIDIA.

NVIDIA will give Jio access to AI supercomputer technologies through the partnership, including CPU, GPU, networking, and AI operating systems and frameworks. Jio will be in charge of overseeing customer engagement and access as well as managing and maintaining the AI cloud infrastructure.

“With the most advanced AI computing infrastructure, Reliance can build its own large language models that power generative AI applications made in India, for the people of India,” NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement.

A Reuters report that Reliance was considering getting into the semiconductor manufacturing business was followed by the announcement. Reliance was reportedly in discussions with foreign chipmakers for potential partnerships, according to the report.

The Indian government has also promoted domestic semiconductor production in an effort to compete with China in the manufacturing sector.

At the latter’s home, Huang recently met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two had in-depth conversations about technology, including what sort of role India might play in the field of artificial intelligence.

It’s essential to recall that at the organization’s most recent annual general meeting, Ambani made a suggestion about investing more in AI. He had said that the company would “lead the efforts towards the India-specific artificial intelligence models and AI-powered solutions across domains, thereby delivering the benefits of artificial intelligence to Indian citizens, businesses, and government alike.”

Following the success of websites like ChatGPT, the AI has flourished. Diverse large language models (LLMs) are also becoming more and more necessary. CB Insights reports that LLM developers have raised close to $12 billion in equity funding this year, or about 12 times as much as they did the previous year.

One of the biggest winners from the increase in demand for AI solutions has been NVIDIA. Its revenue will increase 101% to $13.5 billion in the second quarter of 2023 due to the high demand for its chips to power AI platforms.
