To Strengthen its Product and Offerings, Dukaan® to Hire 100 Engineers

Dukaan®, a leading SaaS platform that allows merchants to build up an e-commerce site with no programming knowledge, announced today that it would employ over 100 engineers for various jobs in its Bengaluru headquarters. The firm will be able to expand its core technical staff to over 150 employees as a result of this relocation.

‘Dukaan-tech,’ which began as a weekend hackathon project operating on a single EC2 instance six months ago, has swiftly grown into a massive platform powered by a 6 TB RAM, 1200 core kubernetes cluster, according to Subhash Choudhary, Co-founder and CTO.

The react frontend has grown to be a tremendously sophisticated system that manages dozens of themes and plugins and can add/remove new themes or plugins in real-time without requiring a restart, delivering about 5 million visits each day.

The basic django backend has grown into hundreds of micro-services that execute more than 100 million requests each day, and the team is still arguing how many is too many. Each one has its own level of difficulty.

The android app, which has been downloaded over 6 million times, has evolved into a magical java codebase that can adapt to a user’s behaviour and show/hide features depending on where the seller is building an online shop journey.

Furthermore, the CEO chose to provide each vendor with their own Android app, which is by far one of the most popular features. As a result, Dukaan currently has over 3 million distinct Android APKs floating around and being shared on Whatsapp, all of which are produced, maintained, and updated by Dukaan specialists outside of the Play Store.

The company has released two iOS applications, one for vendors and the other for buyers (Dukaan finder), and is constantly updating and adding new features.

Sellers have added over 15 million products to Dukaan’s android, iOS, and web platforms, resulting in over 50 million product images and meta-data. The complex data pipelines feed those into sophisticated computer vision algorithms, allowing one to magically detect and upload an entire catalogue just from a photo of a store shelf, and suggest relevant images of the products a user is interested in.

All of these technologies produce more than 50 million events each day, which is saved and analysed for data analytics and fraud prevention.

The recently released social commerce platform ‘Dukaan Plus’ is a sophisticated system that integrates half a dozen third-party services into one integrated platform to make purchasing and (re)selling simple for everyone. The home screen feed will be entirely customised, adapting to a reseller’s activity to propose the most appropriate product to resale rather than searching through a catalogue of millions of goods and being overwhelmed.

Dukaan accomplished this with a team of only 12 ninjas (engineers), who gave it their all every second to ensure that every day, over 5 million neighbourhood dukaans can reach their customers – right in their hands – quickly and safely, and can provide a great shopping experience that rivals the best online retailers in the world.

The product roadmap is strong, adoptions are over the roof, and we need a more hands-on deck to continue shipping and delivering a product that is already miles ahead of the competition in every regard.

“In coming years, over 50 million neighbourhood dukaandars will be taking their dukaans directly to customers with no physical boundaries and we are looking for talented ninjas to help build the infrastructure, frontends, backends and the beautiful industry defining mobile apps.

We have already invested a lot in cutting edge AI and ML technology to simplify every step of the seller experience, From being able to magically upload the entire catalogue of a grocery store just by taking a photo of his store to processing thousands of online payment settlements in real-time.

We want to take that same magical experience to the next level by simplifying and redefining growth, Logistics and working capital requirements for the 1st time internet entrepreneurs,” said Subhash Choudhary, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Dukaan.

Dukaan has introduced Dukaan Plus, a social commerce network that connects manufacturers, merchants, resellers, and customers on a single platform, with the reseller receiving commissions on sales. Dukaan regulates the product prices to guarantee that each item is correctly priced. Dukaan Plus has over ten thousand registered members, including merchants and resellers, since its inception.

Sumit Shah and Subhash Choudhary launched Dukaan® in June 2020 as a highly user-friendly, customised, and AI-driven platform that allows millions of small businesses and first-time internet entrepreneurs to offer their goods and services online. It enables over 3.5 million small and medium-sized businesses in India to start, grow, market, and manage their businesses online in over 40 different categories, including grocery stores, restaurants, fruits and vegetable stores, electronics stores, fashion and apparel stores, jewellery stores, and furniture stores, among others. Matrix Partners and Lightspeed India Partners have invested in Dukaan.
