Trioog: A startup on a mission to provide support and security to people

Trioog Technologies Pvt Ltd is a personal security startup founded by Mukul Samant (Goa), and Nigel Sequeira (Australia). TRIOOG empowers you to notify your loved ones (or emergency contacts) with SOS, your real-time location, automatic audio and photo uploads when you are in danger. Mukul was in conversation with Susparsha Gaikwad, Assistant Editor at incubees.com.

INCUBEES: Tell us about your product or services?

Mukul: Imagine a scenario where:
Your child is playing in school and some stranger tries to lure them outside the school boundaries. How would you know? Your daughter or spouse is at college or work and it’s late at night and they have still not yet returned home.

How would you know if they are safe?

This is a fear most families in India have to face on a daily basis.

Crimes such as child kidnappings, trafficking, rape and assault on women, mugging, hit and run, mob lynching is all on an exponential rise all over the world and especially in India. In most cases, it is avoidable if the necessary help reaches the potential victims in time. We wish to bridge this gap using technology. In the present scenario of the heightened crime, our technology can assist in such stressful situations.

We are developing a system that will consist of a mobile application, a hardware component, and a strong backend network comprising automatic data compression and quick transfer, applications of big data, AI, machine learning, and strong protection of encryption & cybersecurity. The idea is that you can immediately notify your friends, family, and loved ones that you are in danger along with sharing your live location as well as pictures, audio, and video for additional assistance. This comes with many more unique and advanced features purposefully designed to provide support in all possible dire situations.

INCUBEES: What makes your product/services unique and what competition do you see in India and globally?

Mukul: The mission of Trioog is to provide help, support, and security to people in any dire situation. The trioog system consists of both software and hardware components. The trioog personal security system is an SOS system where inputs are gathered through the hardware components and analyzed through the software.

There are other SOS products out there. But none have gone to the lengths that we have, thinking of every possible scenario and working on solutions to tackle that. Most have basic SOS whereas we have gone as deep as providing psychological nudging to provide support to the potential victims in a crisis situation. Smartwatches are still an untapped area for SOS. We believe smartwatches are the best hardware devices for SOS during an event of a conflict. We are creating the world’s first security system where you can convert your existing smartwatch into a security watch.

INCUBEES: What are the challenges you see in the market at this point in time?

Mukul: Due to COVID, a lot of jobs were lost and people’s buying power has decreased. We had to make changes to our plans accordingly to address the current market. We are going to start with software releases and later we are planning on launching hardware products. Besides this, another challenge is the reach. We want to reach every individual in need regardless of financial, educational, or any other restrictions. In most cases, financial barriers are a major hindrance in providing SOS. Either products/services are overly expensive or the ones that are affordable are subpar. We have to tackle both ends of this problem and give a top-level service at an affordable cost.

INCUBEES: Tell us about your team and what inspires them?

Mukul: We are a team of extremely passionate and driven members. We continuously strive to improve ourselves and our services so as to help our customers in the best possible way. Our core team consists of five people of various backgrounds and experiences, who share a common vision. We truly believe that the world can be made a better place by having smarter and efficient systems in place that tackle personal security in the world. This way truly making a difference in people’s lives.

INCUBEES: Where do you see your product/service reaching in the next five-years?

Mukul: In the next five years, we would like to see our products being used by each and every girl/woman. This way our country will be a much safer place for our women. We are planning new products and services in personal security at various levels.

This is stage one. We picture a central instant security system that blankets an entire city. This will consist of Trioog smartwatches, Trioog Mobile apps, CCTVs on roads, trains, buses, buildings, parking lots all linked to the central Trioog system. If any individual is in any crisis it can be instantly tracked, monitored and help can be provided. By taking a user-centered design approach to ensuring the solution adds value and delivers tangible results we propose engaging the Four Voices of Design; rapid but deep and wide research of people and crime patterns; deep technology tools, we will design, prototype and develop a consolidated response that enables early interventions, education, and behavioral change.

We picture a pleasant future where people can have peace of mind knowing where their kids are and knowing that they can help their loved ones when the need arises. We need your assistance to work towards turning this dream into reality.

INCUBEES: Do you have plans to raise funding to grow your business or allow your business to organically grow?

Mukul: Yes. The reach we want to achieve and the services we want to offer will be the best possible through rapid growth. This will be possible with outside funds and the market know-how, experience, and connections that we hope to get through investment. Currently, we are reaching out to potential investors and VCs to raise funds to help us grow.

INCUBEES: What are the challenges you face as a start-up?

Mukul: As a startup, I feel the biggest challenge, as well as the biggest advantage, is the need and the ability to adapt and pivot. As a startup, you are tackling some of the other problems. Trying to offer the best possible solution to that problem. This path has lots of holes and lots of turns. The solution might need modifications, the business model might need tweaking, the market response could be unfavorable so on and so forth. As a startup, you have to continuously be aware of this and keep adapting accordingly. That being said, startups are more capable of making these pivots as compared to traditional or big businesses. I feel the key is to strongly believe in your mission and work relentlessly and with perseverance to get to your vision.
