US-based Sort acquired by open-source project management startup Plane

With the acquisition of Sort, a US-based engineering team that specializes in AI-native enterprise workflows, open-source project management startup Plane has formally entered the North American market.

Eighteen months after raising $4 million in seed funding, Plane made the move.

Utilizing Plane’s infrastructure, on-premises deployment, and workflow automation capabilities, the Sort team contributes extensive knowledge of enterprise software and AI systems.

The acquisition speeds up Plane’s enterprise go-to-market initiatives throughout North America and enhances its product offering as a cutting-edge, self-hosted platform designed for security-conscious enterprises.

Designed for contemporary teams, Plane is an open-source project management tool that integrates timelines, wikis, and task tracking into a single interface. With sophisticated features like audit logs, RBAC, custom workflows, and air-gapped deployments, it provides services to more than 1,000,000 users worldwide.

With its US expansion and a team that includes experts from BitGo, PayPal, Elastic, and MongoDB, Plane aims to establish itself as a work operating system that defines its category by striking a balance between control, openness, and enterprise-level performance.
