$555k funding secured by SA breakdown management startup RNR
RNR, a breakdown management business in South Africa, has secured ZAR10 million (US $555,000) in capital to assist its development and African expansion. Using technology, RNR can instantly mobilise a network of suppliers to service whole fleets.
RNR, which stands for “Right Now Reponse,” is an on-demand breakdown management and analytics platform that was established in 2019. The firm offers truck fleet managers and truck OEMs breakdown help through its countrywide network of verified technicians, electricians, and repair facilities by using technology to match supply with demand.
By enlisting the assistance of its nearest subcontractor, RNR not only drastically reduces response times but also completes 70% of repairs on the spot, preventing costly towing and freight delays. Clients get access to real-time location monitoring and 24/7 breakdown visibility via the app and online interface from acceptance to roadside and workshop repair. RNR has supported more than 25,000 breakdowns for nearly 1,200 transporters since its start.
A total of ZAR10 million (US $555,000) has been invested in the project, with ZAR9.2 million (US $511,000) coming from Cape Town-based venture capital firm HAVAC. The business plans to spread across South Africa and into other regions of the continent over the next five years.
“We cannot be more excited to partner with HAVAÍC,” said RNR CEO Wayne Witherspoon. “We are in hugely capable hands and look forward to bringing our technology to the rest of Africa. As fleet owners ourselves, we look forward to driving innovation in the sector by helping others curb unwelcome expenses and delays. What’s more, our model brings more business to our subcontractors nationwide, particularly those in rural areas.”
Principal at HAVAC, Kiara Suttner-Tromp, said RNR perfectly matched the firm’s investing tenet to support startups using technology to address real-world issues.
“HAVAÍC has a strong track record of helping industry aggregators like RNR develop and scale. We are very energised by our partnership with Wayne and his team and look forward to capitalising on ample opportunities in the sector to unlock significant value for RNR,” she said.
