DingTalk, an Alibaba subsidiary reportedly laying off 30% of its workforce
Pandaily reported, citing local media site Sina Tech, that Alibaba’s enterprise communication platform DingTalk has cut off roughly 30% of its workers.
According to reports, DingTalk underwent “organizational improvements,” lowering its adjustment ratio to 10%. This figure indicates the percentage of employees that departed on their own or due to seasonal occurrences.
The share of merit pay has also allegedly been reduced to 6% from a previous range of 4% to 10%.
While a few teams that worked with separately created SaaS and hardware were reduced, several significant departments were unaffected, and a few departments even hired more employees.
MMC, Alibaba’s community group-buying firm, was also reported to be cutting off roughly 20% of its personnel in March.
The latest reports of personnel layoffs coincide with Beijing’s growing crackdown on technology. iQiyi, a video-streaming service, is allegedly laying off 20% to 40% of its present workers, while TikTok competitor Kuaishou is planning to eliminate 30% of its workforce.
