Yellow biotech firm Ento Industries raised Growth funding from private investors
Singaporean biotechnology startup Tak Wai CHUNG and Te-LingNAI, two private investors with an emphasis on environmental, social, and governance (ESG), have provided growth funding to Ento Industries.
The funding, according to a statement released by Ento Industries on Monday, will hasten the company’s transition to a bigger facility and increase its capacity for production.
“Our vision is to become the one-stop solution for all kinds of food waste and create a circular economy for our food manufacturing partners,
“With the new facility and proprietary automation system, we can address the growing demand for food waste processing and serve larger clients,” said Nathaniel Phua, Founder, and Chief Executive Officer of Ento Industries.
The closure of the loop on these waste types and the need for more sustainable food sources, particularly for Singapore’s expanding aquaculture industry, are addressed by the valorization of food waste into insect protein, according to him as well.
Ento Industries recycles food waste into a high-quality, sustainable protein that can be added to animal feed for a variety of farm animals and pets by using insects known as Black Soldier Flies (BSF).
Insect frass is another byproduct of the process, and it is transformed into an organic fertilizer for farming and gardening that is rich in nutrients.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to contribute to the growth of Ento,
“With the strong network of suppliers, partners, and customers Ento industries has developed, we believe it is well-positioned to unlock value from discarded food waste,” said Chung.
“We recognize Ento Industries’ contribution to our environment, food ecosystem and security, and sustainability and look forward to working with Nathaniel and his team on this meaningful venture,” he added.
By converting low-value organic waste into high-value feed and fertilizers for the pet, gardening, and agricultural industries, Ento Industries, a yellow biotechnology company, is redefining conventional methods of managing organic waste.
In order to create a controlled environment that optimizes production cleanly and sustainably, the company’s proprietary systems are created with the biology of the insects in mind.
Ento Industries was established with the goal of resolving society’s growing food waste issue by increasing the number of food waste streams that can be upcycled and utilizing technologies to process the waste. Ento Industries is supported by local food waste management company Tiong Lam Supplies.
According to Ento Industries, who cited the National Environmental Agency, food waste made up 12 percent of all waste produced in Singapore, with 817,000 tonnes produced in 2021 representing a 23 percent increase from 2020.
Ento Industries has received strong support as a recipient of financial grants like the DBS Foundation Social Enterprise Grant and the Enterprise Singapore Enterprise Development Grant (EDG) due to its compelling mission.
In order to develop new products and streamline its operational procedures, Ento Industries has also formed strong alliances with a number of institutions and businesses, including the National University of Singapore, Republic Polytechnic, ITE College Central, and Singapore Agrotechnologies.
Tiong Lam, a Singaporean company that manages food waste, was founded in 1994 and collaborates with local food production firms to control the food waste that results from those operations.
In order to create materials for their clients in agriculture, biofuel, and other related industries, the company processes these waste types.
