Meesho has grown to become India’s largest e-commerce platform for retailers and buyers, founded by Vidit Aatrey, IIT Delhi. Meesho gives you a platform to sell your products with no investment. Over the years, online e-commerce platforms have become the new things, it has made the business easier however as difficult to set a customer base. With the growing interest in e-commerce and platforms like meesho, coutloot, elanic and a few other platforms several small business owners are using Meesho as the go-to application. Meesho is a Bangalore-based startup, founded in the year 2015 with 6 lakhs sellers on the application.
The one thing that made Meesho unique is that they do not charge any commission which gives them more traction. Vidit realized that the biggest issue was charging commission with higher margins and that was the innovation they wanted to bring in.
Another issue is Cash on delivery, which is a major issue in the e-commerce industry, there are several women who like to shop and do not have cards but rely on cash on delivery, either they would get cash from their husbands or there are customers that prefer giving cash since there is the uncertainty of the product as well.
In the year 2021, Softbank invested $300 million in Meesho giving them a huge boost, they earn their revenue through advertisements.
While giving an interview to ET Digital Vidit Aatrey CEO of Meesho said, “India is a very big and diverse country, each state and each city has its own way to go about things including language. India being a country with a great number of people, it’s hard to have one application that caters to all. So in regards to the functioning of the Meesho app, making it easier for people to use the app in their language, Meesho used a lot of technologies- machine learning and Artificial intelligence so each user has a customized experience, he further went on to explain how the app will work differently in Hyderabad and differently in Delhi”.
