QuickBus acquired by Kenyan mobility startup BuuPass to scale in Nigeria, SA
QuickBus was purchased by Kenyan mobility startup BuuPass in an effort to grow in South Africa and Nigeria.
BuuPass is a B2B2C travel marketplace that was established in 2016 and allows users to search, compare, and book tickets via USSD, app, or web.
The startup has raised over US $100 million in total value of goods sold and sold over six million travel tickets thus far. It has also participated in the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa and received funding from the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund.
In contrast, QuickBus was introduced in 2019 and compiles long-distance bus tickets into a marketplace, facilitating price comparison and trip scheduling for customers while also assisting bus companies in operating more profitably.
BuuPass has now acquired it, which will accelerate the company’s strategic expansion into South Africa and Nigeria, where it plans to add more than 5,000 new routes to its platform. Along with more than 100 bus operators, BuuPass has partnered with a number of well-known online distribution companies, such as FNB, Vodacom, and MTN.
“We are excited to expand our footprint in Africa as we actively look for more opportunities to bring our platform to new African markets. BuuPass aims to create a comprehensive, continent-wide network of interconnected transport options for seamless global and continental travel, and this acquisition is a significant milestone toward that goal,” said BuuPass co-founder Sonia Kabra.
