SA lifestyle app FOMO teams up with Google

With the help of a partnership with Google, the South African food app FOMO, which links users to discounts at restaurants or events, is now possible to book quickly and easily using Google Search, Maps, and Assistant.

After a night out, co-founders Ryan and Jax Marx, who had previously founded price comparison websites CompareGuru and MoneyPanda, came up with the concept for the FOMO app, which has experienced tremendous growth since its introduction in early 2021.

The app began as a marketplace for South Africans to use geolocation to identify restaurant offers nearest to them, and it has had 180,000 downloads to far. In Q3 2021, FOMO branched out into activities and lodging, and it also introduced an online reservation system so that restaurants could handle their bookings through the app.

With the help of its collaboration with Google, people can now quickly and easily make reservations using Google Search, Maps, and Assistant. After Dineplan, FOMO is the only other South African-based booking software platform that provides integration with Google.

“This is a big step for FOMO as we look to increase accessibility for South Africans to make and manage their reservations at their favourite restaurants both on the app, as well as through Google Search or Maps, quickly and efficiently, further stimulating an ailing industry affected by COVID-19,” said Jax Marx.
