Third African App Launchpad Cup launched by Egypt

Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) has launched the third edition of the African App Launchpad Cup, which aims to help African tech companies work on digital apps and video games.

ITIDA, the executive arm of Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), has collaborated with IBM for this year’s edition of the competition, which is available to early-stage companies and entrepreneurs until the end of October.

The competition, which is run by ITIDA’s affiliate the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), is part of the president’s “African App Launchpad” initiative, which aims to develop the skills and abilities of 10,000 African youth while also providing support to 100 African startups working on digital apps and games.

There are two tracks in the competition: application development and game creation, with rewards totaling up to $72,000. With IBM’s hybrid cloud approach, it will make it easier for startups and next-generation developer communities to have access to a range of its data and AI breakthroughs.

Fifty businesses will advance to the competition’s final stage, where they will pitch their creative ideas and business plans to a panel of judges. Three winners will be announced from each category at the conclusion of the tournament.
