Spacecraft engineering company StarOps acquired by space technology startup GalaxEye
Bengaluru-based spacecraft engineering firm StarOps was purchased by space technology startup GalaxEye.
Along with an experienced engineering team, the acquisition gives GalaxEye access to StarOps’ unique technologies, certified satellite platforms, and systems engineering know-how. A number of the team members have previously worked on the Lunar Lander and Rover projects at TeamIndus. Their expertise in end-of-life operations, spacecraft development, and mission design will enhance GalaxEye’s capabilities throughout the satellite value chain.
StarOps was established in 2022 and focuses on indigenizing spacecraft technologies in India while also developing satellite platforms. Thru the acquisition, GalaxEye’s internal capabilities are enhanced by its expertise in satellite design, development, and qualification.
Spacecraft systems engineering, mission operations, propulsion, avionics, flight computers, guidance and navigation, structures and mechanisms, electrical systems, program management, and ground operations are all areas in which StarOps specializes. The corporation has developed methods to lessen reliance on international supply chains and has achieved over 66% indigenization across all of its satellite systems.
Additionally, the acquisition gives GalaxEye access to StarOps’ engineering skills and spacecraft technologies. This includes testing infrastructure, engineering tools, unique subsystem technologies, qualification heritage, and qualified satellite bus platforms in the 50 kg, 150 kg, and 250 kg classes.
The agreement will contribute spacecraft technology at several phases of the satellite development process and increase GalaxEye’s internal engineering capabilities. According to the corporations, the integration will facilitate vertical integration, product development, and the completion of space missions from conception and development to operations.
Suyash Singh, Denil Chawda, Kishan Thakkar, Pranit Mehta, Rakshit Bhatt, and Satya Chakravarthy co-founded GalaxEye in 2021 with the goal of advancing Earth observation capabilities using its exclusive OptoSAR technology. The technology offers daytime and nighttime imaging capabilities in all weather conditions by combining Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical imaging.
With recent transactions involving fintech, consumer, SaaS, proptech, and deep-tech companies, the acquisition coincides with a surge in M&A activity in India’s startup sector. Recent transactions include MoEngage’s purchase of AI company Aampe, Meesho’s purchase of Kirana Club for Rs 202 crore, and Aurum PropTech’s purchase of Housing.com for an enterprise value of Rs 458 crore.
