DusMinute acquired by Star Localmart, expands to 170 stores

DusMinute, a Bengaluru-based retail chain that operates in gated communities, was purchased by Star Localmart, the retail division of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group (SGG), for an undisclosed sum.
With this acquisition, Star Localmart now has 170 locations in its network. The company caters to rural customers with contemporary supermarket formats in tier-II to tier-VI towns. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are among the states where it has announced expansion. The long-term objective is to reach 3,000 stores by 2030 and generate Rs 5,000 crore in revenue over the following five years.
DusMinute delivers daily necessities like groceries, fruits, vegetables, and household goods from 40 locations inside residential complexes. For added convenience, the chain also offers doorstep delivery via an app. This is in line with Star Localmart’s objective to provide every community with contemporary, reasonably priced retail.
In July 2023, banker Bandana Kankani participated in a bridge round led by Inflection Point Ventures, which raised Rs 11.5 crore for Dusminute. A few angel investors and the Indian Angel Network are also among its backers.
In 50 towns in Northern Karnataka and Western Maharashtra, Star Localmart currently runs more than 130 stores. With over 3,000 SKUs, each store combines local, regional, and national brands. In the communities it serves, the company also prioritizes training and job creation.
Established in 2020, Star Localmart is using small, multi-brand stores to expand its retail network in smaller towns. Through the integration of DusMinute’s hyperlocal model and its growing customer base, Star Localmart is well-positioned to enhance customer relationships and solidify its position as a leader in India’s regional retail market.
