‘National Startup Awards’: Government has started to think like startups, Piyush Goyal

In the 33rd edition of the ‘National Startup Awards’ 2022, winners were felicitated by Shri Piyush Goyal Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution and Textiles. On the 16th of January India also observed ‘National Startup Day’ and the award ceremony was held on the same day to commemorate the occasion in New Delhi.

Nowadays the government is of the opinion that thinking like a startup is crucial in order to attempt at making the country a global startup hub in the coming future.

The National Startup Awards focused on innovation, exceptional capabilities, and contribution to society as yardsticks win it was choosing candidates across 17 sectors, 50 sub-sectors, and 7 special categories. These sectors include technology, energy, environment, FinTech, education, health, and wellness, etc. Awards were handed out after identifying startups that had the most potential ideas that had ‘go to market’ strategies. The National Startup Awards 2022 chose 46 winners with 41 startups, 2 incubators, and 1 accelerator.

A total of 2,667 applications were received from startups, incubators, and accelerators from 31 states and union territories across the country. These applications were screened and evaluated by more than 50 jury members. These jury members include senior Government officials, Venture Capitalists (VCs), startup CEOs, Industry stalwarts, and renowned educationists, among others.

There were 2 startups that won under 2 categories which were ‘Natura Cop Care’ won NSA 2022 under Rural Impact Startup and Agriculture. The other startup that won under 2 categories was ‘Algorithmic Biologics Pvt Ltd.’ They won under the ‘health & wellness’ sector and the special category ‘Women-led startup’. The winners of NSA 2022 were awarded with Rs 5 lakh each, and the incubators and the accelerator won Rs 15 lakh.
