Singapore’s AI computing startup RIDM receives complete Seed investment from The Invention Lab

The Invention Lab, a South Korean venture capital firm, has finished its seed investment in RIDM, an artificial intelligence (AI) computing startup based in Singapore.

This investment was made in collaboration with London-based international quant investment firm Qube Research & Technologies (QRT), according to a statement released by The Invention Lab on Friday.

The statement claims that the joint investment is actively pursuing commercialization based on three international patents and is placing a wager on a novel architecture developed by a group of engineers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) to address memory bottlenecks.

In order to address the “Memory Wall” issue, which is regarded as a fundamental technical challenge in AI and high-performance computing (HPC) environments, RIDM, a deep tech startup, created a novel computing architecture known as “DODA (Dynamically Orchestrated Dataflow Architecture).”

Through development in a general-purpose programming language (C++), RIDM has successfully simplified the “spatial compilation” problem, which has been considered a challenging problem for decades, in linear time. It is assessed to offer a competitive development environment compared to the current CUDA ecosystem.

RIDM and QRT are currently working together on a proof of concept (PoC). Using RIDM’s DODA architecture, both businesses are concentrating on the development and acceleration of FPGAs, a key use case that demands high efficiency and minimal latency.

Jin-ho Lee, the company’s founder and CEO, studied general-purpose dataflow architecture for his Ph.D. at NUS, and the university has registered this research as a patent.

By obtaining this patent under an exclusive license, RIDM has established a basis for commercialization.

Trevor E. Carlson, an associate professor in NUS’s Department of Computer Science and technical advisor, was involved in the design of RIDM’s technical foundation and is the primary developer of the multi-core simulator SniperSim.

“RIDM is a next-generation technology team that is directly breaking through the limitations of traditional computing structures,

“It is a bet on the technology itself, but also an expression of trust in the execution capabilities of the team that is realizing it and their balanced business judgment,” said Jin-young Kim, Chief Executive Officer of The Invention Lab.

According to the statement, RIDM plans to pursue strategic partnerships with multinational corporations based on the outcomes of technology verification and currently maintains a lightweight structure focused on intellectual property based on three international patents.
