Defence Minister urges entrepreneurs to modernize armed forces with new innovations
Startups should come up with innovations and new ideas in order to modernize the armed forces with new technology. Startups are becoming the backbone of our country and will contribute to building a stronger nation, making India self-reliant. There are several startups both on a small and large scale which have ventured into the defence sector to bring in new ideas. The government has a strong ecosystem for the growth of entrepreneurs. “Manthan” organized by Innovators for Defence, Excellence-defence innovation organization (IDEX-DIO) Ministry of Defence. The Defence expo started on 18th October and will go on till 22nd October.
The expo is scheduled from October 18 to 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Defence Expo in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.
More than Rs 300 crore has been sanctioned for 100 plus iDEX winners so that they could develop products and have access to technology in more than 50 tech areas. iDEX has definitely changed the thought process about defence production only being for business owners. iDEX is a platform which provides economic backing to entrepreneurs in order to develop state-of-the-art technologies. iDEX was launched by PM Modi during DefExpo in 2018. Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister applauded the winners of iDEX, which is also called the ‘Prime Ministers Award for Excellence”.
“iDEX is a popular initiative of the Ministry of Defence and has encouraged other ministers to adopt innovative schemes too,” said Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister. Further adding that iDEX creates direct and indirect employment opportunities helping people looking for jobs and for those creating jobs. Ever since iDEX was launched, 6000 plus applications were received in the last 7 editions of the Defence India Startup Challenge.
iDEX has been encouraging entrepreneurs to tap into their capabilities to help grow the defence capabilities of the country which was harder before due to the policies. The platform is also available in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in collaboration with incubators.
