NASSCOM: Focusing on improving the Startup Ecosystem in West Bengal

As the world is seeing tremendous growth in the startup ecosystem, India is not far behind. Each state in India is focusing on improving and growing by giving opportunities to entrepreneurs by building incubators, and launching programmes and platforms in order to assist startups. The startup industry in the western part is also improving according to NASSCOM chairman Sanjoy Chatterjee. NASSCOM is the premier trade body of the IT and ITeS sector. It has to date incubated 221 startups. They also built the largest startup ecosystem in the east Indian region, a warehouse where they mentor startups.

In the first round out of 221 startups, 79 startups got support from incubators and were funded. The second series saw a further 49 startups receiving support. There were entrepreneurs from large companies, MSMEs, tech sectors, and nontech sectors. “The startup ecosystem in the east Indian region, particularly West Bengal, is improving. A large number of IT and ITeS firms are going to start operations from the city,” said Sanjoy Chatterjee.

Apart from NASSCOM, West Bengal also has IIM innovation park and IIT Kharagpur. The first Bengal Entrepreneurs Summit will be organized by NASSCOM on 19th January and will focus on technology. More than about 400 startups are expected to attend.
