SA medical technology startup Impulse Biomedical raises capital to launch and grow

Impulse Biomedical, a biomedical engineering startup based in Cape Town, has raised an undisclosed sum of money to aid in the commercialization of its goods and international expansion.
Impulse Biomedical, which was founded by engineering entrepreneurs Giancarlo Beukes and Gokul Nair, is the driving force behind innovative medical technology that is revolutionizing emergency care. Their main offerings are the ZiBiPen, the first reloadable epinephrine auto-injector in history, and the Easy Squeezy, a reasonably priced and user-friendly asthma inhaler that enables patients to better manage their condition.
The startup has now raised additional funds from E Squared Investments and ANZA Capital after obtaining funding from Futuregrowth in 2021. In order to prepare for a Series A capital raise, it needs the money to commercialize its goods, handle intricate regulatory processes, and grow globally.
“This partnership marks a pivotal step in our journey to deliver accessible, life-saving healthcare at scale,” said Giancarlo Beukes, co-founder of Impulse Biomedical. “With a shared passion for impact, progress and a better tomorrow, we are excited to work with E Squared to place our innovations – present and future – in the hands of people around the world.”
According to Pyi Maung, head of investments at E Squared, the firm supports scalable projects that have quantifiable social impact in addition to commercial value.
“Impulse Biomedical’s mission and innovation represent the kind of purpose-driven entrepreneurship South Africa and the world needs,” Maung said.
