Second Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship selected 12 Nigerian startups

The second cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, which offers funding and industry support to startups transforming Africa’s educational landscape, will include 12 creative ed-tech companies, as announced by Co-creation Hub (CcHub).

As stated by the media in February 2023, CcHub announced that it would be launching an ed-tech accelerator initiative worth US $15 million in Kenya and Nigeria as part of a new partnership with the Mastercard Foundation under the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship Programme.

In 2023, the fellowship gave 12 startups in Nigeria and 12 in Kenya their first funding; it is now returning for a second year. The twelve chosen startups will have access to an extensive array of advisory and technical resources, mentorship—including courses on the science of learning—and a worldwide network to assist in expanding their impact.

The projects that were selected include Genti Media, which specializes in African education and storytelling, Data Entry Academy (DEA), a virtual community and academy that equips job seekers with basic skills, Exam Scholars, a testing and learning platform, and Topset, a language learning solution.

The on-demand professional development course provider Harde Business, the animation skills provider Magic Lab Academy, the school discovery and matching platform Edusko, and the interactive learning platform Proud African Roots have also been chosen.

The social-emotional learning platform IM FLOW, the career development platform WIFICOMBAT, the online learning service Skill Up With Kahdsole, and the AI-enabled learning platform Vinsighte for the visually impaired round out the cohort.

“After a rigorous application and selection process, we are enthusiastic about the potential of the selected startups to enhance the face of ed-tech in the region. After the success of cohort one, we are excited about the second cohort’s potential to add to better education outcomes for students in Nigeria,” said Nissi Madu, managing partner at CcHub.
